Running A/C

Our experience is that of Allezcat. One unit will not run the 16k A/C unit. It will run most evrything else. Maybe Chet & I can get together and see if two will work.

Brokers

Hints about using brokers. 1. They are not just waiting for you to drop in. 2. Call and make an APPOINTMENT. If they are busy with someone else, those folks probably made an appointment. Don't expect the broker to drop everything for you. 3. Have a budget figure in mind for buying your vessel. If yo...

Heating and cooling

Heat pumps will not produce heat at temps below 40. We supplimented with an oil filled radiator type heater in each hull and shut the pump down below 40. (16,000 BTU A/C unit. We also have cooling problems because of the enormous deck area. Deck shades help a lot, plus we use a carry-on on the main ...

Charley

Ed, Second Wind (we met on Pelican Bay) suffered damage to most of her starboard side including the stern handrail, swim ladder, stanchions and deck to hull joint, toerail, etc. Allezcat (Chet & Sharon White) suffered similar damage. Magic Time (Larry & Joy Linn) was overturned and holed. I ...

Gasket

I found the same type of material at Home Depot and the local hardware store. It comes in variable width and thickness. It will compress so go slightly thicker. (It is a closed cell foam with adhesive.) I can't give you the product name since we just went thru Hurricane Charley, but if I find it I'l...

RE: Charley

Second Wind sustained damage to her starboard side. Terry & Bob are OK. The house needs a new roof and pool cage. I am trying to coordinate efforts to repair PDQ's in the area. Perhaps James, from PDQ will come down if we are all close. Locations of local marinas who can haul a 36 would be appre...

Real Info

Is it not time to get back to the real purpose of this forum: INFO FOR PDQ OWNERS, instead of beefing about the format. Come-on members, let's make this a postive thing. I like my PDQ and want the good info from other members of this forum. Let's leave the complaining to the politicians. Terry Green...

Trinidad

We've been using Petit Trinidad on the Chesapeake, and now for 8 months in Florida. So far, so good. I can't make any promises, but it looks like it will at least make it through another half season.

New Format

Thanks to Kevin & Salwa for their time, and good effort. I guess we are just a bunch if cranky old sailors (Tom & Amy excepted), and we just need to get used to the new format. It is here, it will stay, and we need to get used to it. Guess it is just hard to accomodate change. I hope that ou...

Too Cumbersome

I think it is too cumbersome also. I'm not interested in surfing it, only interested in new information. Some info is relevant to all of the boats, not just one model.

R12 Conversion

I changed my Mecedes A/C unit from R12 to R134. It is not as efficient as a coolant, and also requires a different espansion valve. I would not change over on my refrigeration system onboard, which is already marginal in hot weater. I strongly suspect that the unit would run all of the time, drawing...
