Re: Lower end cleaning of cooling water channels

I would second what the other Tom said. I've seen bad things happen to parts left too long in vinegar. We went through 5 gallons of vinegar last year doing a thorough de-clogging of the cooling passages in both engines. For what it's worth, a hand squeeze fuel pump ball helped get some pressure behi...

Re: PDQ 32 LRC

JWood, (huh, huh, he said wood) We were this close[very small distance] to buying the 32 instead of the 36 and the only reason we went with the 36 was the lack of standing headroom on the 32 in the salon unless the coach roof was rolled forward into the "open" position, which sort of expos...

Re: Air Conditioning

bg5w, We've been living on board 36041 since 2000 and have tried virtually every conceivable way to utilize air conditioning. We've had the drop in hatch units (2 x 7,000 btu), a free standing, self evaporating, house hold unit (12,000 btu) , a standard house window unit(9,000 btu), an older style, ...

Re: Stern Extensions

Having seen Jon's extensions up close I can verify that they are extremely well done and have a much better integrated look than the others I've seen. Now if we can only get Jon to set up shop and start cranking these out. I volunteer to let you practice on Dream Catcher first ....... Tom 36041 www....

Autohelm 4000

Hello All, I'm wondering if anyone has a spare autopilot 4000 st plus control head (the gauge read-out thingy) as ours is currently dead and I have not been able to find a suitable replacement online for such an old device. Any ideas or info on tracking one down is greatly appreciated. Regards, Tom(...

Autohelm Autopilot

All, Does anyone know off the top of their head what error code "4001" means on the autopilot readout? We'll be sailing along and suddenly for seemingly no real reason, the auto pilot beeps once and then displays the "4001" message. If I press "Auto" again, it comes rig...

Burning Oil

All, One of my 3 year old Yamaha 9.9's is going through it's .75 liter of oil in about 6 hours of hard running. It's not leaking out, so it must be burning. The engine runs smoothly and makes normal power, so my thought is either a valve seal is leaking or maybe a piston ring is busted. When we get ...

Re: Salon Bulkhead

Bob, The floor covering we ordered online from Defender. The product was called Nautolex vinyl flooring and it came in several diffrent color/patterns. We opted for the sharkskin variant found here: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|10918|311409|311410&id=23628 Attached is a picture fr...

Re: beating to windward

Dan, When we replaced our head sail, we were able to tack through just over 100 degrees, but by pointing that high, we were going sideways as much as we were forward. Now a days, we go around 105 to 110 depending on conditions. Daggers would have been nice.... at least until we ripped them off in a ...

Re: epirb battery replacement?

john,

We replaced our EPIRB (ACR) battery last year with Life Raft and Survival in RI. The cost was just over $200 plus shipping. The work was completed on time and I would use these guys again. Their website is : http://www.lrse.com/ .

Good luck,
Tom

Freedom 1000

All, The inverting side of our Freedom 1000 quit about 15 months ago, but the charging side continued to function without issue. I had figured we would continue forward with just the charging portion as we rarely need to invert at the 1000 watt level, but when I picked up a Freedom 2000 last week at...

Salon Bulkhead

All, The laminate on Dream Catcher's aft salon bulkhead is worn out. Rather than remove and then re-apply said laminate, can you just paint over it? I think it would probably look OK and even if it doesn't, I'm no worse off than now as far as replacing it goes. The veneer looks nice, but it has neve...

Aft Hand Rails

All, We were hit by another boat last night while we were tied up to the dock at Southport Harbor Marina in lower NC. The damage was fairly limited and only our starboard side hand rail leading up from the aft steps appears to be hurt. My question is how do I inspect the inside area that the aft rai...
