Mac, I have not done this particular job yet. My comment was to reinforce that whacking a shaft on a pump like this with any force can cause damage and is not advisable.
That said, I have just ordered some seals myself and will be looking at the job before long.

Re: Hydraulic oil leak at Flybridge Helm
Gentle tapping to set up some vibration with the puller in place can be helpful, but solid whacks are not advisable.

Re: Power Issue
There is a switch on the inverter itself accessed through the locker in the starboard hull. That tripped on us once and the unit has worked fine for many years since then after resetting that switch.
Maybe you will be so lucky.

Re: Dinghy Hoist
While on this subject, I remain disappointed that PDQ did not angle the aft-most/top most portion of the latest davits closer towards the centerline. As stated earlier, there is only so much space between the hulls, so you are not likely to try to hoist a dinghy over 9.5 feet. A typical dinghy of th...

Re: Dinghy Hoist
Glad to help, Mac. I just wedge a thick rag between the dinghy fabric and the lifting gear. We have traveled close to 17,000 nm with the dink/engine hoisted and no problems. Some of that was in really snotty conditions. As you know, the key is to eliminate any motion of the dink relative to the davi...

Re: Dinghy Hoist
Mac, For the aft end, I cut a square-tube bar and added aircraft cable near each end to carabiners that attach to the lifting rings on the transom. That keeps the cables clear of the engine and allows the lower end of the lifting tackle to get as low in the dinghy as possible. On the forward end, I ...

Re: Sticky white vinyl ceilings
Thanks, Dick. We had modest success with vinyl cleaner, but likely the alcohol works better. If you are in somewhat dim light and sitting down, the overhead vinyl looks nice. It is when you stand up and really look at it that you can see (and feel) the mess that accumulates.

Re: BAHAMAS WIFI
I don't know if it is properly called Wi-Fi, but BTC Bahamas offers data plans through their cell service. Typically, if you can see the tower, you will get decent service. The phone then becomes a hotspot for your devices. I have had it work well all the way to Long Island, but not sure about south...

Re: Bottom Paint
Good comments. When I bought paint from West Marine one time, they said if I did not use it soon, to bring it back and they would re-shake it for me. I guess each store has different equipment available. Using the paddle, I needed a corded electric drill. There is no way a cordless could handle it e...

Three gallons might stretch for 2 coats, but four is safer.

Re: Pulling Bundles and a few other questions
Since we are having this engine cooling discussion, keep in mind that for boats (like ours) in southern FL in summer where the water temp gets close to 90F, it will definitely have an effect on engine cooling. That is not likely affecting you right now, and won't be as bad in VA, I assume. Another c...

Re: Pulling Bundles and a few other questions
Carl,
You seem to know what to look for. Good luck.
Any chance the port engine runs hotter than the starboard?

Re: Pulling Bundles and a few other questions
Carl, Here is my take on some of your questions: I have pulled the heat exchanger bundle out the front, but you need to cut some of the fiberglass away that interferes. It is not a big deal. You might be able to stretch 3 gallons of bottom paint for 2 coats, but 4 is safer. My lower helm control han...

Re: Rocna Anchot
Hi, Mac,
I did not take your comment as criticism, but I have to mention that the 25kg Rocna is 11 pounds heavier than the 20 kg. Your 325 feet of chain is well over 250 pounds heavier than our 80 feet. A lot depends upon your cruising grounds, of course, as you mentioned.

Re: Rocna Anchot
Our Rocna is the 25kg (55 lbs) that the previous owner had. It is heavier than recommended, but once set, I sure sleep well at night.
