Transom Shower Replacement options

Post by Phenix-former-owner »

Phenix (32007) has the original factory-installed transom shower. It is a 1995-made Whale - Swim 'n' Rinse Deck / Transom Shower

The cover has cracked and come off (it was the one held on by a string, not a hinge) and I can't find a replacement for the cover. And the nozzle is wonky and needs replacement. If I could find a cover that fits, I'd be done with it and move onto more important things. I could replace the whole thing with a similar unit from Whale, which I think has the same measurements (so no cutting, which is good). I see some other alternatives but they would require a different size hole. I would love a smaller one but I'd guess that it wouldn't look right.

What have others done (or recommend) when their unit needs replacement?

Here is a picture of what it looks like now (excuse the grim, she's on the hard for the winter):

a. I too have found Home Depot and Lowes parts can work for the sprayer. Had to replace my head shower.

b. A simple rectangle of plastic and hinges should make a cover.

But new is nice. I will promise you that is NOT a fun place to work if back access is needed.

Thanks guys. I'll check out Home Depot and see what I can find. It would be great NOT to put in a new shower, as the current enclosure is sealed well. But the lack of a cover is unsightly.

As for access to the area behind, I had my wife (she's small) crawl in there a few years ago and tighten a hose that had a slow drip.

I think boat yoga is supposed to be good for you. I read that somewhere.

I always thought of working back there as being like cave diving, just minus the buoyancy aspect.
Horrible place to spend any extended time.

I also had access issues getting at my shower on the starboard steps via the lockers at the transom, until I figured out to go through the aft bulkhead in the berthing space. Pull the carpet covered plywood piece, and access is reasonable.
