Broken clutch handle for main halyard

Post by Phenix-former-owner »

Yesterday, I was out sailing and on dousing the main, I lifted the handle of the mast-mounted clutch and it broke off. Hmm. What to do now? Does anyone know if the handle itself can be replaced? Or does it require a new clutch?

Here is a pic of the handle, I forgot to take a pic of the clutch before I left the boat.

Any suggestions on what to do?

You might also take a look at the side plates, if they've been exposed to as much sun for the same period of time it might make sense to replaced the whole clutch.

I replaced one handle last year but when the next clutch broke the side plate gave out and I replaced the unit. I'll probably replace all of them over the next couple of years.

My request for help is just prior to yours,I posted "How to remove a quad spinlock"
After I changed the lever, I posted a summary.
The video can be found www.spinlick.co.uk use the support heading and select clutch and use the XAS model and view the video. Your XA spinlock is not the same as the XAS but the video is similar.

The lever can be replaced just go slow.

Thanks.

I ordered the new handle here:

http://www.apsltd.com/c-1197-spinlockcl ... parts.aspx
SPSA16 - XA Replacement Handle - Price: $13.60

I ordered a couple of them, so I'll replace the Main Halyard and Spinnaker Halyard handles together, so they look the same.
