PDQ 32 Weight

Post by thinwater »

The factory says it is light ship is 7200 pounds and max loaded is 9202 pounds.

Light ship is probably sans engines, stuff, ground tackle, sails, dinghy and all fluids, so add (2*130) + 30*8 + 1000 = 8700 pounds if kept relatively light, some tanks full and some empty. Traditionally factory numbers are optimistic, though some are dead-on.

Has anyone noticed the weight when you were hauled? I'm working on a speed polar post and am curious about the range of as-sailed weights.

The last time I was hauled. April 2012 MIDORI was just over 10,000 lb using the travel lift scale. Fully loaded at the end of the our cruising season . The waterline is original and the water line was at the water line.
I can make a note when we are launched later this month.

Empty boat 7200
2 engines (2x100) 200
30 gallons water 250
30 gallons waste 270
25 gallons gasoline 175
Mainsail 100
Genoa 60
Running rigging 65
Engine spares 20
Batteries (3xgr27) 350
Other spares 30
Kitchen wares 20
Big toys (3x45) 135
Dingy 225
PFD and safety 50
Boat hooks etc 25
Anchors, chains 150
Fenders, docklines 50
Added stuff (solar etc) 400
Bedding and towels 50
Toiletries and First aid 15
Non-perishable snacks 15
Carpets 20
Bottom paint 150
Other 100
Total 10025

I was conservative in spots and certainly missed some things, so a little over 10,000 seems reasonable. That means 2850 pounds of "stuff," some of which is part of the boat (sails) and some of which is not. Another 500 pounds for cruising seems reasonable (food, clothing, personal effects). So perhaps adding 3325 pounds for empty vs. local cruising seems reasonable.

I'm looking at the ratios of some boats, so that helps.
