Bedding the forward baby stay

Post by maxicrom »

We are starting get some leakage through the baby stay. I'm pretty sure that is the source because the forward port corner of the Stbd cabin mattress is getting wet and the wall carpet has stains near the chainplate bolts.

Any suggestions from someone that has dealt with this - any surprises or beat practices suggestions.

Will appreciate any input...

Search the forum for "baby stay" there is lots out there on this one :-)

I pulled the chain plate, cleaned up the mess, glassed over the repair, epoxied the crap out of the "slot" that the chainplate goes through, then redrilled the holes for the chainplate and reinstalled. Then went topside and caulked the junction from the top. So far, all dry, 5 years.

Thanks Sam,

I figured that this has been dealt with. My guess is that we've been lucky for so long because II the Max was never cruised extensibly. Next year we're hoping to get some more sailing time in, we're moving her from the Potomac up to the bay near our house. So as they say "it'sa time" to get back on top of the maintenance chores we could put off while she was in DC "condo" mode.
