Waste Holding Tank

Post by NautiBits »

The holding tank on this Capella is glassed in aft of the shower and fore of the starboard rudder compartment.

Two issues:

We need a way to measure the contents. Has anyone been able to use the Scad system for this purpose? I'm thinking of using Scad for the water tank and may install on the compartment wall between the shower and the holding tank to see if it works there.

The flange on the top of the tank has three access points; pump out, fill, and vent. The vent connection is loose and leaking when full. It is buggered up with a tube of almost clear rubber caulk. This obscures the physical connection well enough, but is lacking in the critical "keep the contents in the tank" criteria. Is this likely to be a threaded connection that simply needs tightening, and/or a new washer/gasket/o-ring?

Your thoughts?

Snake River Electronics sells a probe that fits into the tank to measure the liquid level. On the plus side they read several tanks, so you can buy probes for water and fuel tanks.

Thanks Terry,

Checking out Snake RIver on the TankEdge site.

How long have you used it? Did you install it yourself? Any issues?

We did install the probes ourselves. There were no issues. As far as I know the unit is still in use (we sold the boat 4 years ago). We used the system for 7 years.
