HyperVent or Equal

Has anyone come up with a less expensive and workable solution to moisture under
the matress. I calculate $170 to install Hypervent in the two forward cabins of
our PDQ36.

Chet: I'm jealous!!! It's because of the tropical climate that you don't have
moisture. The base of the berth is between the hulls over the water. Imagine
sub-freezing air cooling this base to under 32 degrees and then putting 70
degree + air, plus body heat, and moisture, directly above the base. This is the
issue in the colder climates ....

Hi Rick,
Several years ago we put one inch closed cell foam under the mattresses
primarily to add additional cushioning to the mattress. We have not had any
moisture problems under the mattresses in all these years

The boat spends all its time in tropical climates

Check with a few waterproofing companies. On most project we end up throwing
away more hydroduct than it would take to cover the area under the front bunks.

We diagnosed the problem as body moisture going through the mattress and
condensing on the inside of the bridge deck. Our solution, which works 100% in
New England climate, was to encase the mattress in a standard waterproof plastic
mattress zip bag and to put an extra layer of foam mattress (look in outdoor
camping equipment stores) as an insulator below it. Not very expensive, and I
now keep dry spare charts under the mattress

BTW, another source of irritating bed wetting was from condensation fallig from
the hatch over the bed. This was solved by cutting thin plastic sheets (look in
kitchen equipment stores for very thin cutting boards) to fit between the
screens and the hatch window. Also 100% effective.

Rick,
I used hypervent at the recommendation of Roger Ford. It works abosolutely. It
was worth evey penny I spent on it, and I would not use eanything else.

You may check into a Grace Product called hydoduct. It is designed to be a
subterranean drain but it should work as a vent also. It is sold in rolls 36"
wide. Miradrain may also work. It is a similar product made by another company

Check with your better building supply houses, they should carry it or know who
does.
