Overheating 100 hp engine/ Heatercraft heater.

Post by Milky Way »

Hi! Runing at cruising speed, turned on heater and after half hour the stbd.engine heat alarm sounded and the red diode came on the temp gauge. turned off the heater and alarm went off. Checked installation and found it ok. Called Heatercraft and they suggested a smaller boosterpump. The overheating took place on fhe small rubber tubing going from the coolantpump to the turbo overheating the turbo pipefitting and burning the rubber hose causing acoolant leak. Yanmar replaced this hose and purged the coolant system . This did not cure the overheating problem. I then decided to disconnect the boosterpump electrically only, since the pump does not restrict coolant flow when stopped it is not necessary to remove it. This cured the problem, and I do not notice any change in the heater performance. Comments please. Armin Quickert MV78.
