Mileage

Post by Leadfree »

'We have twin 75's in our MV34. We get a little over 2 miles per gallon of fuel. How well are others doing for mileage? If you are getting better mileage, how are you doing it?

hi larry,

since we bought our boat we've done 8000sm, mainly on icw. we have consistently gotten 3sm/g while cruising @ 12.5-13k which for us is 3300 rpm. we have a 16x13 prop. we now have 1200 hrs on engines which are 75hp.

we live on the boat 7+ months doing icw, fl, & bahamas, so boat is loaded. we usually travel with pretty full fuel & water. we have a 10' rib w/15hp 2 stroke.

i make a point of keeping bottom clean which is problematic at the end of our trip since paint is starting to wear in some spots, so it's a weekly snorkle when we're not travelling.

good luck,
john & diane cummings

Mileage

Post by Calypso »

Hi Larry,

We have a 2005 34 with Yanmar 100's and have been keeping pretty close tabs on mileage since we bought the boat last year. We've been able to average about 2.3 nm/gallon. I had the props re-pitched (they came at 17/17 and I had them pitched down to 17/14.5 and that helped some. But, bottom line, best performance on a fairly smooth day at 14 knots (about 2800 rpm) has been 2.5. We tried running at higher speeds - did about a hundred miles at 3250 rpms which yielded a solid 16 kts, but the mileage from that trip was 2.0...

So I think you're probably doing about as well as the boat will do..
