32 MV with 55hp Westerbekes???

Post by CARDUDE »

I'm looking at a 32 with the 55hp Westerbekes. Any issues with these engines?

I'm trying to save some money over the 34 with the 75-100hp engines, but don't want to kill my ability to resell in the future. About 100K difference in price.......

Any thoughts on the 32 vs the 34 as far as resale/populararity???

hi,

there are at least 2 32 owners active on this list.

fwiw, we own a 34 and we've been aboard a 32 so i can give some thoughts. the 32 and early (pre-2004) 34 are not that different. main differences were pdq's learning curve. mechanical systems on 32 seem a bit rougher. 55hp seems a bit low unless you travel REALLY light. we have 75s and would love 100s but we travel REALLY heavy. i think the price difference you're seeing now represents what market sees as difference in models and probably will remain to some extent into future.

Hey, thanks for the reply/info!

They are asking 149K for this 32 with the 55hp engines. Haven't been to look at it in person, so I don't know the actual condition. What do you think it's worth?

worth is in the pocketbook of the beholder :)

with that said, i've seen 34s in the low 200K range. if it were me, i'd try to get a ride on a 34 to compare with the 32. i would definetly take the 55hp for a ride to make sure that it will live up to your expectations.

another thing. a friend with a 32 told me his boat doesn't have counter-rotating props. you may want to check that out.

if you don't mind me asking, where is the boat?

What's the deal with the counter rotating props?

this boat looks like it is literally a pdq 32 sailboat w/o the mast. this may have been the original 32 prototype. i think it was for sale in the keys when we bought ours in 2005.

the 32 i was on was just like a 34 but smaller. you really need to see a 32/34 to compare to it. someone on list may have firsthand knowledge of this boat.

the counter-rotating props cancel out the tendency to only back one way.

I OWN 32/006 DAWN.
IF YOUR LOOKING AT THE PROTOTYPE-FORGET IT.
IF ITS A REAL MV32 FROM #003 FORWARD IT MIGHT BE A GOOD DEAL
AS LONG AS YOU WANT TO CRUISE AT 8 KNOTS.
I ACTUALLY PUT BOW AND STERN EXTENSIONS ON MINE AND
THINK ITS AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN A STANDARD EARLY MV34.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to wait and shoot for a MV34 with the 100hp engines.

I love these yachts, and am envious of you guys/gals..........
