Plastic Strainer
Plastic Strainer
I was cleaning the hull today and one of the plastic strainers at the entrance to a through-hull just came off in my hand. Although there are screw holes in it, there were no screws. Seems like it was just being held on by the bottom paint. Anyone know how these were attached at the factory? Epoxy, waterproof caulk, ??????

Re: Plastic Strainer
hi,
i believe they were attached with 5200 or equivalent. some, like the engine, have screw holes while others like the anchor locker are just glued.

Re: Plastic Strainer
Russ, I had one get loose once and when the boat was hauled, I cleaned up the area and applied rule 5200 or some similar product and it has been fine since. Never had any screws either but I prefere it that way. Sandy "MV Mishigas"

Thanks, I'll stow it away and take care of it at the next hauling.

Re: Plastic Strainer
Anyone have a part replacement for the AC strainer bowls and filters?
I read this off the bowl but am uncertain brand/model, etc. and don't see anything popping up on Google.

Re: Plastic Strainer
The Groco plastic bowl strainers fit, with either a SS or plastic filter. These units are a disaster waiting to happen so make sure the filter sits fully down into the bowl to allow the plastic bowl to be fully tightened. I sometimes have taken a 1/16th of an inch off the filter to ensure this happens - thus I prefer plastic over SS. Also keep an eye out for 'crazing' in the plastic filter bowl - a sign of pending failure. I've look around and haven't been able to find any alternative filter assy which would fit in the space allowed without major replumbing.

Re: Plastic Strainer
Hi John,
I don''t think ours is a Groco. I went to their site and couldn't find anything that looked the same.
Did you replace yours from factory standard?
And do you happen to know what PDQ was using as the "standard" strainer assembly in 2006 for the Cruiseairs?
Thanks and best,
Mark
