Achoring in the Bahamas with a MV 34

Post by Epiphany »

Is a 22 lb delta anchor with all chain rode good enough for anchoring in the Bahamas?

That anchor is too light. You should be using a 35 pound delta for a boat your size. The 22 will be OK in light winds, but would be questionable for a 40 knot blow, which is entirely possible in the Bahamas.

I have a 35 pound CQR but I understand that the ROCNA is the newest design and is getting a lot of attention from PDQ owners.

I also have a 35 lb CQR with 60 ft of chain. It has worked well for 10 years in the bahamas both on the 36 sail cat and the 34 powercat.

hi,

we've beenanchoring in the bahamas for 6 years, almost all in abacos. we've used a 20kg spade and now a 20kg rocna. we have 40' chain. both have done well for us. rocna's lower profile helps when there is sand over limestone. in abacos you get a lot of grass and anchor needs to get down through it if you must anchor in grass.

Manson seems to be a Rocna knock off and it costs a lot less. I have a 20kg Manson with a 70' chain and I don't remember it not holding.
