blocking points?

blocking points?

hi all,

when stored for the summer/winter out of the water, what is the proper place to put the railroad tie blocks that the hulls sit on?

Hey Duetto,

At the factory we would block;
Aft -as close to the start of the skegs as possible. This would correspond with the forward engine mount, incorporating some engine bed as stiffening
Mid -at the forward cabin bulkhead
Fwd -port side at the bulkhead between the fridge and generator locker
-Stbd side at the head door bulkhead, and sometimes also at the forward face of the holding tank, if it was glassed into the hull.
In addition we would place jack stands at the transom making sure they were centered under the aft transom face.
Make sure the yard staff shim the blocking to match the hull shape as close as possible. I have seen yards lower a boat where some blocks makes contact with the hull, and others are an inch or more away. This results in over and under loading of the hull. Also a good idea to pad the top of the blocking with a couple layers of carpet. This helps with reducing point loading.
