E80 Radar Control

Post by AlanH »

Hello fellow PDQ owners,

My wife and I purchased a 2006 34' powercat formerly named Tar City Star, now named Catbo. We brought her home in February from Stuart, Fl to our home in Palm Coast, Fl. We have taken some short trips since then and love the boat. We have begun the process learning about the boat, its systems and electronics. My question is about the E80. I can't figure out how to turn the radar on. The E80 display has a radar indicator in the top right corner that indicate the radar is off. The manual says to turn it on with the soft key. I am sure I am missing something simple but I can't figure out how to do it. If anyone can explain it I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Alan

Good question. I'm in the same boat so to speak. We recently purchased a 34' Powercat and have yet to even attempt to use the radar. I'd like to know how to turn it on and how to integrate it with the chart plotter.

I would like to make the default to switch the radar off. I can't see any options for this in any of the settings.
Is this possible?
I have always found Raymarine products and documentation rather unintuitive, so I have written (for test this season) my own notes on the C80/Radar set up. Here's an extract:-

The scanner icon (top right of the display) indicates the current status of the radar.
Greyed out - this indicates that the scanner is currently not powered (OFF mode). When radar not required but display in use for other applications e.g. Chart.
When OFF is selected, system countdowns - during this time you cannot re-power the scanner.
Static - the scanner is powered on but is not currently transmitting (STANDBY mode). Antenna does not rotate, the scanner does not transmit and the radar data is removed from the screen. This is a power save mode used when radar not needed for short time periods. When you return to transmit mode, the magnetron does not need to warm up. This is the default mode.
Rotating - the scanner is transmitting (TRANSMIT/TX mode).

Use the POWER button softkeys to select the required mode as follows

(pressing briefly with Display functioning):-

RADAR/PALETTE: Shows the softkeys (SK).
SK:RADAR; TX/STDBY
SK:SCANNER; ON/OFF
SK:PALETTE; DAY/NIGHT

Cheers
Bob

Terry,

Thank you for the information. Having read the operation manual I did not get that you use the power button to bring up the radar softkeys. With you information I was able to bring up the radar soft keys. I did turn the scanner on but the Transmit Standby buttons were not illuminated. Pushing the button beneath them did not do anything.

Any Ideas what the problem might be?
