Modern anchor fit on MV34 roller?

Post by LookingGlass »

The 25 lb CQR on our 2002 is begging to be replaced with something larger and more modern. I like the Rocna or the new Vulcan. Anybody know how a 44 or 55 lb one would fit the bow roller without hitting the hull below? Or what other newer anchors fit well and work well?

I have no idea if there were any changes to the bow roller along the way, but I suggest that you add a signature to show your boat year, engine HP, etc.

We have a 2006 model that came with a 55 lb Rocna. I believe in oversizing anchors, but even I would not have gone quite that big. That said, I LOVE this anchor and have never had a problem with it setting, holding, or re-setting on a tidal shift. It fits fine with no issues.

Good luck.

I believe most of the PDQ 36 and 32 owners have gone with Rocna or Manson Supreme 35-pound anchors and been very pleased. I have never heard it suggested that bigger is needed (my PDQ 32 came with a 25-pound Delta, which was too small, in part because Delta is weak in mud). Also Mantus is very good.

55 pounds is quite unnecessary. 45 pounds is very conservative, but that is your business. A 35-pound Rocna is a powerful anchor.

Also consider a long, thin snubber, perhaps the best way to lower the force on an anchor.
