Flybridge Tachometer

My port tachometer in the flybridge quit working. The starboard tach and lower helm are working fine. I cleaned the wiring connector behind the tachometer and that did not help. I was hoping to be able to swap the wiring connector with the starboard tach (to try to determine if the problem is the tach or the wiring), but the wiring was not long enough.

Do the flybridge tachs "repeat" from the lower helm tachs, or do they operate independently from the engine? Any information/suggestions would be appreciated.

Richard, I am not sure how the tachs are wired but I was having a intermittent problem with one of the flybridge tacos also. As you mentioned the cables are not long enough to plug into the opposite tacos. What I did was removed the tacos and swapped them. It was incredibly easy on our boat, about 10 minutes work.

I too have had an issue with an intermittent tachometer on the flybridge. We did find that the cable connection inside the lower helm had come loose. So far, tightening it has worked.

Thanks Alan. I will probably end up swapping the tachs if a connection issue does not surface.

I swapped the port tach with the starboard tach in the flybridge. The port tach worked. So, now I am chasing a wiring/connection issue. Does anyone know if the flybridge tach is wired directly to the engine or is it a repeater of the lower helm tach? Any ideas?
