Where to install a solar controller

Post by PDQfan »

For those of you who have a solar controller installed, where is it located?

I will be installing a Victron smartcontroller with bluetooth, such that I will be able to monitor from my phone. So, technically I don't ever need to view it. There will be an inline circuit breaker between the controller and battery so theoretically I might need to reset that breaker at some point. Anyhow, I was thinking of mounting it in the wiring cabinet behind the lower helm and then tying into the positive and negative buses in there.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

Ours is an older solar system with no bluetooth. The controller and basic monitor are in the house battery compartment. Has worked fine for us. With bluetooth it would be great.

We installed our Victron solar controller on the wall in the space between the two berths. That space is quite large and easily accessed via the Port berth interior wall -- the opening is covered by a roughly 8" x 15" panel held by 4 screws.

Our solar controller is mounted in the cabinet of the lower helm station.
