UltraSuede

Having returned from a wonderful trip to Whitby where we talked about
accessories, assembly and all the good things. Michele was wondering if anyone
has UltraSuede on their PDQ. Any pro's or con's on using UltraSuede. We are
planning on homeporting in South Florida and expanding our sailing from there

John Wade - Miss Kitty - hull 48 or 49 (still to be determined)

We used an Ultrasuede "lookalike" (sensasuede, or something like that) and had
mixed feelings about it. It is a light color , and with a 4 yearold (now 7) and
three cats its taken a beating. Early on, one seat got messed up with (we think)
a dirty diesel exhaust from a commercial fishing boat. The black spots resisted
everything. A drycleaner refused to deal with it, claiming the naugahide backing
wouldn't survive, and the foam would never go back in right

We then went on a one year trip, and of course, the cushions got pretty grubby -
enough so that we were willing to try anything, figuring they couldn't get any
worse! To our surprise, scrubbing with "KaBoom" and throwing them in the wash
(and repeating a few times on the worst seat) revived them to almost new
condition! And the foam went back in with only minor wrestling

All in all, the suede probably held up better than cloth - especially since the
cats would have declared cloth seats a giant scratching post. For several years
it was a monkey on our back, watching it get worse and worse - but then, with a
few hours work, it was restored! We now keep a bottle of KaBoom on the boat, so
we can eliminate stains as they happen.

I don't know much about ultrasuede. But...We have just put together MV34 #17

After much searching,I learned that Stout, Inc. is a company that uses Sunbrella
material and threads to weave their own patterns. Some are VERY nice compared to
Sunbrella itself. The material feels softer so more comfortable. If interested,
email me as I have pixs of several of the ones I was interested in using
