I have Yanmar SD-20 saildrives. The upper and lower boots were replaced 2 year’s ago. The Saildrives are currently out to replace seals. I was told the diaphragm boots should be replaced as well since the leaking seal resulted in them getting covered in oil and as a precaution should be replaced. I took a look at the boots and the lower boot didn’t show any sign of oil, just some mussels/clams on the bottom side. To me it looked to be in very good condition.
The top boot had been soaked in oil for some time and appeared to have “softened” from the oil.
Can anyone comment on their experiences with the boots? I was told they have a life expectancy of 10 years.
