Mid-Chesapeake PDQ Get-Together?

Post by thinwater »

Summer is here, and I know there must be a few boats in the water. I can see 2 on the hard, still, at HHN, so perhaps a little lateris better? I just got back from a get-to-gether of another brand get-together (I knew some of the owners) and it was great fun, puting names with faces.

Rhode River? Broad Creek - I might combine it with a back-door visit to Annaplois via. San Domingo Creek.

Ditto! I'm currently at the Jersey shore, but it would be a nice cruise for us.

We're planning to head downriver towards the bay around Labor day weekend - might be able to stretch as far as Solomons.

South River Sounds Good.

When? I need to haul out very soon to paint the bottom only, so that will not be long. At the end of August we will be going around the Delmarva, so that probably will not work; the timing would be too tricky.

Late July/early August?

We're thinking of leaving DC to be in Solomons by the 1st of September for few days (or the Eastern Shore), then heading back.

I'm am one of the newer members, and can only speak to my own convinience, but how about we take Sandy's location suggestion.

South River
7-18 to 7-19
An afternoon/evening get-together and raft-up.

My suggestion. My August is looking very busy; some cruising, some work.

If it's the South River we can dinghy over to the raft up. We won't be taking "II the Max" down river until later in August (DC is 96 miles from the bay so we have to plan for at least 2 days each way). I was thinking Solomons because that is closer to Herring Bay - with the updated plans we may aim for Tangier or Smith Island, or Crisfield on the Eastern shore. It would be nice to have this mild weather then.

Sounds good,

MB

FYI: Max was a West Highland terrier we had that lived to be 17, and most of life aboard - we figured he deserved some recognition.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting South River, that's just where "Page 83" is at the moment. Personally, I would like to try Solomons or St Leonard Creek, a short ways up the Pax River. Unfortunately I'm taking a group from Singles on Sailboats to Lake Huron in late August, chartering 10 boats on the North Channel! September is a good time on the Bay for me. We need to do some advance talking about forming a raft.

Perhaps mid-September is better.

Post by thinwater »

I'm fine with that. The Pax sounds fine, too.

Wind Seeker and crew is up for it. However, we have “mid Chesapeake” at around the Solomons Island latitude. Consider also Domingo Creek (back door to St Michaels) Tilghman Island, Little Choptank R. and the Honga R. and Hooper Island. All perfect anchorages for cats of our draft. Ray and Paula

My club, Singles on Sailboats has an excellant Skipper's handbook with about nine pages on forming a raft, something we do on most of our cruises. Its fun to stroll from boat to boat, socializing, sampling appetizers and examining projects.

I would be glad to email it (1.5 MB) to anyone who is interested in forming a raft. Our procedures have been refined and polished over the thirty one years we've been doing this! :D
