I'm in fresh water (Lake Michigan) so can't help with salt air problems and the
fridge. Mine works fine

On the speed meter, I might suggest rigging a long handle and a brush, and
wiping it off from the outside each time you go sailing. It might limit barnicle
growth. Others jump in here?!?
There is a spinnaker rigging duscussion on the board. Use the SEARCH MESSAGES
function (accessed near the top of the main message board and search for the
word spinnaker (don't use quotes)

1) I used some Transducer Antifouling Paint (West Marine #128225) on the paddle
wheel and surrounding area. This helped a lot

2) I have a PDQ 36 and have had good success with our asymetrical spinnaker. We
use a simple system with a short (10 ft. or so) line to run the spinnaker tack
to the windward hull and cleat it to the forward docking cleat. The spinnaker
sheet is run outside the forestay and we use 2 or 3 blocks (to lead it to the
jib winch. Usually, we have 1 block amidship, 1 block near the stearn and the
last block inside, at the inside corner of the hull and directly aft of the jib
winch

There are methods that let you adjust the tack, but they involve more blocks at
the bow and lines run aft. This has worked fine in low to moderate (10-14 knots)
wind conditions. Beyond 14 knots, we usually sock it; but there is no reason it
won't work, just don'yt try to adjust the tack with that wind pressure

With this system, you can't gybe - you have to sock it and re-rig the lines. But
we usually stay on the same tack for quite a way when using the spinnaker.
