Mast track cleaning

Post by amytom »

My sails are in the loft for touch-up and now is a good time to get the track clean. I assume I would just climb the mast and clean with a rag starting at the top and working down. I would also spray it down with sailkote.

Any tips?

May not be necessary to climb the mast. We've attached a compact cleaning plug (translation = tampon) to the halyard (don't forget to attach a second line held onto in the cockpit to pull it back down once you've gotten it to the top). Soak the item with appropriate cleaning solution and run it up and down a few times. We've also used this method to lubricate the track so the sail goes up and down easier.
