Marelon Love

Post by NautiBits »

Hello everyone!!

It is the freaking New Guy again. In other forums, Marelon seacocks are generally abhored. On this forum, the five references, generally incidental, are benign at worst, and mostly lovey-dovey.

On this new boat of mine (okay, technically not mine yet... can you visualize a pit bull clamped to your buttocks?), all of the seacocks are this mysterious plastic stuff called Marelon. The handles do turn, both ways. The boat is dry.

So, should I leave them alone? They are there for a reason, and they work. Less lard for the performance sail boat thingy to haul around (I'm losing weight too!!). There were/are no plugs/stoppers/bungs anywhere to be found on board. PDQs are (nearly) indestructible, so don't worry about those new-fangled Marelon seacocks!! Dang-it!!

What say you knowledgeable forum members?

Thanks,

Joe Mc

Ode to St Mary Lon

Neither brass nor bronze will you find
aboard good ship Page 83
for these are things that rust and break
when she puts out to sea.

Instead she wears little statuettes
both black and white you see
petitioning protection from Mary Lon
Patron Saint of Simplicity

These little treasures are much admired
for their durability
they do not jamb from long neglect
nor conduct electricity

That is why bonded they need not be
with fragile wires in green
to fend off corrosion galvanic
from that Evil Force, AC

Nor do they dip so deep
in in the pockets of poor old Captain Easy
leaving change for things of greater need
and far less complexity.

Like Lunch.

Sandy,
Put it to music, we will record it in my studio, and then see how she does in rotation or Songwriters Island Radio! If it goes well, we can shop it in Nashville and see if we can find someone to buy it and put it on their next album!

I was thinking along the lines of a Dirge:
I hear a church choir humming the Battle Hymn of the Republic, while a deep bass voice (can we get the guy who sings the theme song of the "Grinch who Stole Christmas"?) reads this timeless prose, including the last line, whereupon the choir blasts out a polyphonic "Amen!"

I hope we can direct some of the proceeds to the "Hull 26 Can we do something about that smell" fund.

Sandy, it was Thurl Ravenscroft (he was also the voice of Tony the Tiger in the cereal commercial) but we will have to look for someone else, Thurl passed in 2005...
