"No Fix" with Raytheon Chartplotter

Posted by Grog on February 20, 2002 at 10:56:00:

Has anyone experienced repeated "No Fix" messages using a Raytheon Chartplotter

The unit sometimes works perfectly. At other times the "No Fix" message appears
almost continuously. Installation and grounding appear correct

Thanks

One other thought. are you near any military installation? They have a methog of
shutting you down. When we go by an active radar unit we loose our signal for
about a mile.

The radar unit turned off could be your problem.I have a system with a Raynav
300 Gps WASS, a RL70 radar at the helm, a L755 fishfinder/chartplotter at the
nav station and a tridata,wind indicater,and autopilot at the helm.The RL70 and
L755 are tied together via HSB.They are also tied to each other and all the
other instruments via seatalk. the seatalk connections are daisey chained from
one to another but I do not know in whicw sequence since PDQ did not provide a
schematic. If I turn off my ST60 instuments I also lose my fix even though my
GPS,radar, and fishfinder/chartplotter are on.

Only item "off" would be the radar display down below in the Navigation area

Sounds like you're losing your GPS signal. Is the antenna blocked? Is the seatalk
connection good?Do you have other instuments on the seatalk buss which are
turned off or not working {blown fuse maybe?)
