hatch hinge maintenance

Post by lauraj »

We have the Lewmar hatches.
Trying to replace bushings and rubbers on the hinges.
BUT the dang pins won't go back in. (keep angling upward)
the "directions" say replace with window "open",
but doesn't say how far open.

What is the secret?..

hi,

can't help on this specifically but i'd try calling lewmar in guilford, ct. i've used their tech support on a windlass replacement and they were very good. give them a try.

Anyone checking....I talked to the guy (at boat show) that replaces the "glass" in the lewmar covers. he said that the best way he has to get the pins back in the hinges is to open them completely (top laying flat) and then use a small clamp to hold the middle section (from cover) down against the frame. says hand pressure may not be enough.
