Where is the flux compass mounted on boats that have a system that is working?

Thanks Marc, I can calibrate it with the mag compass but as the boat turns the
auto pilot compass does not change proportionally. The boat may change heading
45 degrees, the AP will show 10 or 60. The AP manual tells how to correct this
if the error is not too large, but mine won't correct.

Hi, Just a thought. You didn't say what sort of problem you were having, but did
you try re-compensating your fluxgate compass, and re-orienting it to your ships
compass. Sometimes that works

I don't think the anchor should bother that. I did have a problem in that there
is a metal tank mounted in behind my medicine cabinet. I put a piece of lead
lined insulation over that area and my problem went away. The other problem I
mentioned was when we hung a bag with a hair dryer in it on that bulkhead

Good luck

Thanks for the info. Mine is mounted like Dan's. I am trying to figure out if
the compass is bad or it's mounted in the wrong place. I do have my anchor and
30' of chain near that bow but when I move it there is not much difference.

My compass is located underneath the sofa in the forward most corner on the
starboard side. You just need to be sure you don't store large metal objects in
that corner.

Mine is mounted in the starboard /forward storage compartment on the bulkhead
that is shared with
the head. That means that you can't hang a hair dryer on a hook on that
bulkhead, if you do, you just go in straight lines!!!
