Hull Extension Parts

Post by PDQ-Dave »

Make your PDQ 36 a Thirty nine footer.

Sail and motor faster, add storage space and make getting in and out of your dinghy so much easier.

Installation of the hull extensions is straight forward and includes a step by step video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEXopT1emSE.
No modifications to the rigging and only a simple modification to the stern hand rails keeps overall project cost low.
All you need is a set of my parts, a competent fiberglass guy and about a week out of the water.
Quick 3 week delivery time means you can be sailing a PDQ 39 in about a month.
Shipping & Handling within US aprox $300

Ocean tested with 3000+ nautical miles of open ocean.

You can see the project from start to finish at: http://www.pdq36.blogspot.com

Boat sails faster with less wind.
At low boat speeds water flow off the non-submerged transoms is very clean which is good for going fast.
At higher boat speeds transoms become partially submerged and water separation is clean which is good for going fast.
Less fore and aft pitching in a head or cross sea.
Boat surfs waves easier with added buoyancy at sterns.
It's much easier to get on and off the boat from a dinghy, low dock and when swimming (I don't even use the swim ladder).
It's easier to land fish.
We have more storage for coconuts, snorkel gear, etc.
Trim of the boat is improved with added buoyancy at sterns.

Hi Dave

I was going to call you about these hull extension parts but I see you have sold them. Could you please ask the new owner to contact me as I would be interested in purchasing the extension molds once he is finished with them.

Thanks

Double Exposure,
If you look closely, I think you will see that Dave has sold one set of hull extensions but has retained the molds that he created to make multiple copies of the extensions. I am sure he could make you a set of extensions if you wanted them :-)

The price is very reasonable. I wish it were less, but material costs are high for the quality vinylester resin and premium bi-axial fiberglass and gelcoat not to mention the high quality labor to build to my specs.

Dave: do you have any more performance figures? We understand that are specific to one particular vessel.

A quick update - I purchased a set of extensions from Dave and am now in the process of installing them. I have a 95 LRC (hull #47) and while the stern steps are slightly different than Pacifica, they look like they will fit quite well. Due to the modified step design, matching the extension top piece to the step will require filling in a bit of a gap, but nothing that's terribly difficult. The extensions themselves are very well made and were well packaged for shipment.

Just a quick update on my experiences with these extensions. They arrived packed very well & you can tell they are very well made. The installation was quite involved - I'm happy that I hired someone to do all the fiberglass work! After splashing the boat, we brought it back to our mooring - about 30 miles on the Atlantic with 12- 18 mph winds behind the beam & following seas. We hadn't put the genoa back up & still was hitting 8+ mph regularly. The action of the extensions with the seas was a HUGE improvement from the stock design. We have the LRC version, so our sterns tended to squat more than the classics before these were installed. We have a '95 version (Hull #47) and the pieces fit with very little problem.
