Any experiences anyone can share about Bahamas ISP's? It looks like there are several choices for boaters.
Thanks,

Re: Bahamas Internet
hi,
depends on where you're going. major communities (eg. nassau, harbour island, freeport, marsh harbour) have isp's. if you go this route buy an external antennae and and amplifier. components have been documented on this site. if you anchor out you'll definitely want a booster. if you move around you may want to think about using wifi from batelco the phone company. the advantage of this approach is batelco is everywhere.
things to think about are how many times will you go to the bahamas, where will you be located, how much do you move, anchor, etc?

Re: Bahamas Internet
Thanks! We plan to start in the Abacos and head down to Georgetown over 3-4 months, and we will be anchoring out a lot. I saw Batelnet, BTC and also Bahamas WiMax. Will look into each.
Re: Bahamas Internet
hi,
if you anchor out and choose to go the cellphone route as your isp i would highly recommend a cellphone booster. in northern and central exumas there is a tower at highbourne cay and then the next one is at staniel cay which is approximately 40-50 miles.
if you go the wifi route, bahamas wimax is in the abacos and eluthera. not sure about exumas. in any event, if you anchor out you'll need a wifi booster. search this site. there has been much info posted about the subject.
good luck,
