window gaskets

Post by Spoff4 »

Another question from a new owner.
Does anyone know what type (manuf. and part No. or profile) of the gaskets used on the side and front windows?
The black rubber exterior gasket is pulling away from the windows at the corners and needs to be replaced.
Thanks.

The decals on Stray Cat's say "Bomar." Stray Cat is 34012, splashed in August 2002, and although that is quite a time before your 34060 I don't think they changed in between. I Googled this: http://www.pompanette.com/bomar

Just getting around to reading a lot of the Forum posts (preventative measures!). [smile]

After getting email advice from James, Diana pulled the gaskets out, cleaned out all of the crud and green mung, and then tamped them back in.

We thought we would have to replace 3-4 gaskets but now they are like new.

Just needed a good cleaning where they get gunked up and then water and more stuff gets in ... then more and more ... until they are actually separating from the grooves.

Hope this isn't too late and helps!

Any current advice on the removal and replacement of the window gaskets? I assume that they are just seated mechanically and without any sealer/adhesive. Any technique advice so as not to damage the gasket in removing and replacing it?

Thanks for any suggestions.

We have worked on a few of the window gaskets with good results. First thing to do is mark the aluminum frame at the top where joint in the gasket is. This helps with positioning when reinstalling. Then clean out all the crud from the frame and gasket as Mark mentioned. Give the gasket a bit of stretch so it will lay into the corners, apply a bit of adhesive sealant such as black Life-Calk into the frame corners, and reinstall the gasket by pressing it into the frame. Take care to keep the adhesive off the powder coated frame as it will stain. Time will tell as to how long this fix will last, but seems to work.

Hope this helps

Part number for the fixed window gasket is 30-1135. Call Pompanette @ 603-826-5791. Great service. Price is about $3.50/foot.

Middle forward (operable) window uses a different gasket. Once we figure out what the part number is, we'll post.
