Replace Thermostats?

Post by AMCarter3 »

Have any of you replaced any of your 4 thermostats? We have at least 2 of the 4 on our boat that are intermittent. The AA battery connections or the circuit board wire connections seem to acquire light corrosion and stop working periodically. Usually, with some effort, I can get them to work. If you too have issues like this, what have you done about it? Lived with it (like I am now)? Replaced them with a new version of the same model? Or, replaced them with a different model?

hi,

not direct on topic but i have had great success battling the kind of corrosion you describe by using corrosion block. it's sold at west. comes in a blue/silver/green spray can. it's very effective on low amp connections.

Thanks. Good suggestion. Could you be specific about the product you recommend? There are quite a few on West Marine's site: http://www.westmarine.com/corrosion-inhibitor

John, I got a can of the Corrosion Block you recommended. Now, did you just spray some inside the thermostat on the circuit board and battery contact area?

hi,

i've use it on both "hi amp" 12v connections (i.e. battery posts ,power strips, and cigarette lighters) as well as computer usb and cellphone chargers as well as 110v plugs. works miracles on all of the above.
