It's been 5 years since I did this, but somehow I did not make certain the engine was locked down. I tapped reverse and WHAM.
I did break off part of the cavitation plate (doesn't matter), but I had bonded a solid glass plate to the underside of the bridge deck, so no damage.
A quick swim and we were back underway. Never a dull moment.
(The water is still chilly here, hence the dry suit)

Re: Winding-up the motor hoist rope in the prop
I think we've all done that at least once.
Re: Winding-up the motor hoist rope in the prop
We have done the very same thing on one engine and broke the cavitation plate too. The new engines are getting mechanical locks put in place. I'll post my postive solution when they are in place and tested. Ray
Re: Winding-up the motor hoist rope in the prop
Failed locks are common after about year 5-7, depending how often they are lubed. Corrosion makes them stiff. But I think this was probably my mistake.
Simple webbing hold-downs actually work very well. I had those on my last engines for several years, no trouble at all.
