Shift and Throttle cable replacement
Shift and Throttle cable replacement
I realize this is a repeat subject but I have found that I am unable to see images loaded 10 years ago. If anyone has replaced cables recently and could share some advice and/or photos that would be very helpful. I have significant corrosion on cable jackets on both engines and want to replace before a catastrophic failure. Thx
Re: Shift and Throttle cable replacement
It is a fairly easy job. We did it in Guatemala and the cables were in stock at the
Local Yamaha dealer. It does entail taking the shifter (Morse Controls) off of the mounting. Be careful of the plastic clips as they can break easily but can be ordered from West Marine. I don’t know if I took any pictures but I will have a look and post if I find any

Get coupling nuts, so that you can use the old cables to pull the new cables through. If you can't find them, PM. I've got a bag of them, I think.

Re: Shift and Throttle cable replacement
Thanks for the reposting. In the end, I decided not to change them as upon closer examination the corrosion was cosmetic. Outer cover affected only. I cleaned and wrapped the cables to slow/prevent further corrosion and got on with the other work I wanted and needed to do while she was out. I will save and keep your post as an offline reference.
