Came across this issue, a steel can was stores on top of the forward fuel tank resulting in surface degradation as well as a 1/2" hole.
Keep an eye on storing dock lines on the tanks that will introduce corrosive salt, leaking hatch dogs that keep all moist, or anything else that could cause trouble.
Thanks for the heads up James. As soon as I'm next at the boat I'm going to double check what I have sitting on top of the fuel and water tanks. I think I'm ok, but better safe than sorry.
I use several square plastic kitty litter buckets on top of the water and fuel tanks to store lines and other gear. It organizes the gear and prevents the problems James mentioned. The square buckets obviously stack more efficiently than round.
