Installing power tilt motors

Post by catalacmarc »

On my 1991 36, I am looking at replacing the original genre 9.9's~2000 with more current engines. Got to stop throwing almost worn out engines into the beast plus much improved flushing set up. looking at 2020-2023. The current ones have the original manual tilt and block and tackle lift. How do you all manage the power tilting, just stop it by sight? Will the modern power tilt 9.9's fit into the motor well without modification? Any advice appreciated. Marc

It has been some time since your post but if you have not already gone ahead I can offer some info based on my experience on my PDQ 32. I originally installed the power tilt engines as built however I was not happy with the units contacting the water so I designed an arrangement with the tilt cylinders mounted up in front of the engines.

there is a way to do the manual tilt from lower down (same as with the Yamahas) would be less cumbersome. On another note....Is that a Lithium battery in you motor well?!

It is a lIPO house battery, the engines run on e175 which are currently in the rear of the cockpit, currently on the hard in Pensacola, battery locations are going to change, just not sure where yet, we hope to get the boat in the water next week, and take our maiden voyage to crystal river where we will do owner upgrades before sailing to new anchorage in oriental NC

Photos showing my set up. The top line lifts the motor. The steel cable holds it down when reversing.
