Hatch Hinges

Post by 36041 »

Hey Guys,

Does anyone have a supplier/info on replacing the hinge mechanisms on the Bomar hatches? I have several that are broken or failing and I need to come up with something before we take off in November. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Pompanette (they now own Bomar). I believe we have the Bomar Extruded Low profile 1000 series hatches, but not sure of the size. There is an online catalog on their website, and this is the link for the spare parts: http://www.pompanette.com/pompweb.nsf/7 ... enDocument

The Bomar port light hatch hinges (the ports in the staterooms, head and aft cabin) are prone to wear. Specifically, inside of each hinge there is a very cheap plastic piece with two tiny springy bits that break off. When they break the hatch will no longer stay up on it's own.

Hatches or Portlights - it sounds like you are describing a Portlight hinge or am I incorrect? In either case your homemade fix sounds like a good idea!

We had to replace a couple Lewmar side hatch hinges due to breakage of the hinge pins. The Lewmar part # 360270990, West Marine/Port Supply # 10126837. The hinge is called a "Friction Lever" and goes for $30 if you or someone you know has a Port Supply account.

Do you know which Lewmar port we have in the galley and nav areas? Looking at their hatches on the website, it seems like the Medium profile, size 50, seems right.
