What Bottom Paint do you use?

Post by Tanah-Keeta »

TK III (34108) is getting her first bottom paint job on my watch. I think the factory used Pettit ablative... I have used Pettit Ultima SR on the sailboat with success.... have heard that Interlux Micron extra is good... since I have ablative, I will probably stay with it due to the effort to change to non-ablative.

What do you use? Does a gallon give good coverage or is two required?

Thanks for the feedback...

hi ron,

we use petit ultima sr and have very good luck in new england, fl, and bahamas. no barnicles whatsoever. did get a few orange splotches in abacos. but they came right off.

1 gal will just about do one coat. we're starting to go to just touchup since we have so many full coats on.

I have always used Trinidad SR down here in FL and have never had a problem. So she gets Trinidad SR again this time...

Interlux Micron Extra is an ablative paint and will go right over Petit. We've used Micron for the past two paintings and it has held up perfectly. Two coats lasted 2 1/2 years and we had to lightly scrub the bottom only once during that time after Cat Tales sat at the dock for more than a month. Any fuzz that accumulates comes off after a half hour run.

We use Petit Ultima SR. Good results here in Tampa Bay Suggest 2 coats.
