transom delamination

While doing routine maintenance, I discovered both transoms were delaminating. I
am refering to the the area where the outboards mount on my 36 MKIII. The screw
down clamps had broken through the glass allowing the wood to rot. Has anyone
else experienced this problem? I had the area rebuilt with an extra stainless
steel plate also glassed in.

I had the same thing happen after two years. I drilled out about 35% of the
wood, let it dry for two weeks and then filled in with penetrating epoxy, then
glassed in an aluminum plate. I suspect this is a common problem but it doesn’t
appear to cause any harm.
