DC Leakage Problem

Post by Bargain Bill »

I just purchased a PDQ 34 MV29 about 2 weeks ago. One issue I need help solving is a differential DC reading on the engine block and the shaft on both engines of about 650mv when using an Ag/Ag-Cl cell as a common reference. The props needed to be replaced because they had been de-zincified - - nothing left but red copper that could easily be probed with a pen knife. Clearly, the problem has been ongoing for some time, and it is not related to shore power.

I'm in Stuart, FL headed north and would like to stop at a competent marine electrician who can track down the cause and/or come up with a cost-effective solution for this electrical disparity. Any ideas?

Stuart Marine Electric was too busy to deal with it for a week, but they gave me 2 names to check
- - Griffin Marine in Wanchese, NC
- - Custom Marine Services Murrells Inlet, SC

Thanks for your time.

I suggest calling ahead to the Osprey Marina
in Myrtle Beach SC - the best we found on entire
icw. Ask them to line up an ABS qualified marine
electrics guy to meet on yor schedule.
