Yesterday I changed the raw water impellers on my Yanmar 100s for the first time. What on earth was Yanmar/PDQ thinking when they put the water pump behind/below the generator? This seems idiotic.
At any rate, has anyone found a better way to replace the impeller other than removing the generator and the raw water in-flow hose and using a mirror to actually see the water pump? Replacing the first impeller took 1.5 hours; the second 0.5 (did learn something in the 1.5 hours), but even 0.5 would be a serious problem if the impeller needed changing say in any kind of sea, such as crossing to the Bahamas.
Any guidance will be appreciated.

hi guys,
i just got thru doing the same job and couldn't agree more.. i didn't remove anything but did use a mirror and an impeller puller. also, since we've had our boat i've changed impellers twice and both times they were perfect. both had about 600 hrs on them.
