My friend has a Gemini 105. Take a look at the bench he has at the stern.

As you can see, this is a fabric "hammock" that is a simple design, it is a one-piece fabric around two horizontal rails that are mounted at the stern (to the same supports as the davits). It is very confortable at the dock and underway as well.
Has anyone seen this? Possible to have something like this fabricated for the 32? Opinions?
I have taken lots of pictures of his bench (every support from every angle), I'd be glad to upload them here if anyone is interested.

Re: Operation Stern Bench for 32 - hmm?
My wife fell in love with the Gemini bench at the Annapolis boat show - we have a PDQ 36 and I'm planning on adding a similar bench when I replace our davits with a radar arch - if you have davits a crossbar might allow you to create a similar bench.

The davits on the 32 do not have a crossbar, and they are a bit low for something like this. I am going to find someone in Chicago that does steel fabricating an have him take a look at it.maxicrom wrote: if you have davits a crossbar might allow you to create a similar bench.

If your dingy is hoisted high enough, won't your backside hit the dingy? I lash the dingy tubes to the bars while sailing.

I don't think so. I believe that the side of the dinghy would still be below where your butt would be. I guess it would all depend on how high the bars for the bench are.thinwater wrote:If your dingy is hoisted high enough, won't your backside hit the dingy?
I spoke to a friend of mine that has welding experience, he says the tools for welding stainless are different than those for welding steel. He now has a bunch of pictures of the bench on the Gemini, and he is going to take a look at Phenix (32007) and let me know what he thinks.

Re: Operateion Stern Bench - PDQ 32
Any progress on this project?
I think there is a strength issue.
Please look at my blog post on strength (http://sail-delmarva.blogspot.com/search?q=how+strong). I ran some numbers because another owner was think of adding a wind vane; that turned out to be marginal and probably OK, but this would be far too much with 2 people. Far too much. It might hold, but there would be very little safety factor.amytom wrote:Any progress on this project?
Look a the bracing. It is mounted near a vertical and there is a diagonal added. On the PDQ 32, the mass would be at the FAR end of the lever arm.
Yes, I am sure there is a way, But it will require new structure, probably separate from the davits.
Personally, I think it is in the way.
[*]We often climb up out of the dingy
[*]We have a bike rack there
[*]We hand things into the dingy there
[*]The PDQ 32 has a bigger cockpit that the Gemini
[*]I like sitting on the aft cabin roofs just fine
It seems like too much to add to a small boat.
