Bottom Paint experiment

Post by DickTuschick »

I did a little experiment this year with bottom paint. I put Micron EXTRA on one hull and the West Marine equivalent PCA Gold on the other hull.....after 11 months of cruising the West product has lasted longer (less paint loss) and is much cleaner in all respects....and for a lot less $$$$
Safe cruising

You need to be careful.. I checked out some of the West Marine ablative paints and found they were not multi season... if you haul out, you need to repaint. I am not familiar with the one you mentioned.. just thought you might want to check.

Sounds like a cool experiment though, and some good impartial info.
