Sliding Hatch Seal Replacement
Has anyone replaced their sliding hatch seal recently? Can you recommend a source?
Thanks for your help,
Mike.

Re: Sliding Hatch Seal Replacement
Do you mean the rubber shown to the right in this photo?
If so, yes, we recently replaced it but no, I don't know the source. I could perhaps find out from the previous owner though as he left it there for us.

The greatest joy of owning a boat that's been rebuilt by a DIYer that was "learning and writing a book as he went" is finding all the things that should have been there.
We don't have that seal and except for when I wash the boat I'm not sure it's needed.
It does look like automotive door seal though. Maybe ask at your local body shop?

Too many distractions in the photo, I cannot seem to find the seal you are referring to
Maybe you should post several more angles...

Thanks, guys .... yes, that is the seal I am looking to replace.
Mike, if you would ask the previous owner of your boat it would be most appreciated.

Re: Sliding Hatch Seal Replacement
It is really two parts.... The first part is a black version of the trim that we all have installed around the edge of our hard tops. The second is a rubber seal that comes with an adhesive tape already in place. You first install the trim and then come back and install the rubber seal by removing the backing to expose the adhesive tape. You then apply it to the trim that you just finish installing. I picked up the two components at BOW (Boat Owners Warehouse).
I figured this out after driving myself nuts trying to find it as one piece….

Thanks, Mark ... I appreciate the information.
I've got a one piece (trim and seal) sample coming from a manufacturer here in So. Cal and will post the info if its the real deal.

Re: Sliding Hatch Seal Replacement
Ours is all one piece, as shown in the pic. It has metal "teeth" in the edge that attaches to the hard top, allowing it to grip by compression. We used 3m 4000 under the gasket (that is what rebecca is doing in the pic), mostly because we didn't know how tight the new stuff was going to fit. It was tough to get on! This is also the exact same stuff that seals around the lid of our refrigerator.

I was reminded that Holland marine purchased all of the old PDQ spares. Perhaps they might know:

Thanks for the tip, Mike. Any news from Katana's previous owner yet as to the source for the seal you installed?

No, not yet. I hope he hasn't thrown it away. I will follow up tomorrow if I haven;t heard from him.
