Cockpit Cover
Posted by Grog on August 12, 2001 at 07:56:00:
We are contemplating having a cockpit cover made, primarily as protection from
sun, but also from rain. Our proposed design is shown at:[/i]

1) Use exisiting groove below aft edge of bimini (low!)
Or create new fastenings at level of traveller
2) Is a side flap (not shown) desirable?
Any experience or suggestions welcome
Thanks, Grog

It looks like a good design. We have a similar cover except that we don't have
the rear section you have proposed. We used the enclosure track as you have
proposed with a bolt-rope. We have installed shroud cleats to hold the corners
It works well; however, we haven't done much to address the minor drooping or to
shape the center area. For sun, no additional support is necessary; however, for
rain, it tends to accumulate in the basin that is formed. For those few times
it's up in the rain, we installed a web loop that can be attached to the boom
end to create a peak. Without that, it makes a great rain-catcher!!!

Regarding the pole, I would suggest trying it without the pole - but construct
it with the possibility in mind. You might want to consider those collapsable
poles used for tents.

Thanks! Any thoughts about desirability and/or inconvenence of having a pole
along the back to minimize the back edge curving in
