All,

I just purchased a PDQ32 and after using the head, the entire boat smell like raw sewage... I looked through the manual, but I am at a loss right now. Does anyone have any tips/thoughts as to where to (continue) my search?

I checked the starboard hull at the tank and there is no smell in there at all. The starboard hull seems to be smelling the worse, but at this point it all is smelling... I have removed the floorboards and am working on cleaning out that area (mold/mildew also present, loads of fun) however there is no liquid down there. I cannot find where this is smell is coming from...

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Rick Griffin

Check the vent port. Also start using "Odorlos", you can get it at West Marine or Camping World. We have had Zero smell since we started using it nearly 20 years ago.

I didn't see anything blocking the vent. The smell is gone and I finished cleaning up the bilge area. Although there was no toilet-fun-stuffs there, it had a film over it that can only be described as that which you would see on the inside of a toilet bowl after many months of not cleaning it. I think (and i am still not sure about this) that the smell way maybe coming from here and not the head, but I don't know.

I dint seen any blockage of the head, nor was the holding tank full. The forward bow locker that contains the holding tank had no smell. Once the flooring came up the smell was... Far beyond unpleasant. I cleaned out that area and the smell hasnt been back... So far. Safe to say I am a bit nervous...

Try searching my blog:

I think you will find lots of PDQ 32 specific tips and lots of more general stuff. It's not rocket science, but there are many possible problems and solutions.
