1. A PDQ 36 owner (ex-Pacifica) was for a time, but not for the PDQ 32. However, in my opinion it is just as easy to form them on the boat as to attach pre-built extensions; a little more laminating, but alignment is perfect every time.

2. No. But I've backed into some docks pretty hard! Properly fitted, they are probably the strongest part of the hull. As for seaworthiness, they only improve the ride.

A guy built a mold and sold stern extensions for the Seawind 1000 but had the same problem, the two hulls were slightly different. On our first Seawind 1000 we added 4' to the sterns, came out great and vastly improved the performance and motion. Our second Seawind 1000 already had 3' stern extensions. We found a glass man in North Carolina that will add stern extensions to the PDQ 36 for what I consider a reasonable price. I think it would improve the boat greatly, just not sure if it's in the budget.

FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) is a general term for materials like fiberglass (glass fibers plus polyester resin). In my case it was epoxy plus triax glass. You can laminate your own, of course, but where flat sheets are needed (bulkheads, steps) it is faster, better, and perhaps cheaper to buy pre-laminated sheets. Since it is basically the same material, it bonds well and blends right in.

Starboard is a weak polyethylene product completely unsuitable for most projects because of poor bonding (glues won't stick) and poor strength (very weak and sags over time). Good for cutting boards and spacers only.

Extending transoms is NOT a first timers project. It's not terribly difficult, but it requires a good understanding of design and lamination.

The 9.9 will barely fit (scrapes going in). I was not aware they made a 8hp ever or that they still make the 15 hp.

Specs and source?
