Hello!
My wife and I just purchased a PDQ 32, 2001, Hull #48. Formerly "knotty cat", and formerly "2 Katies". We are very excited about the upcoming launch, and working on getting her ship shape. We are replacing all the bulbs w/ LED's. As I want to save a trip up the mast this winter, does anyone know the bulb # or model of typical tricolor, anchor, steaming, and deck lights on our boats?
Also, is the Yamaha 9.9 High thrust still the best replacement engine? Do the hondas with the BRP technology come close?
Cheers!
Matt & Diana Libby

Matt & Diana:
Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the party that is PDQ ownership! We met Tim and "2 Katies" at Cuttyhunk once. Hope the boat enables some fun adventures.
Unfortunately I can't answer your questions due to lack of experience with both light & engine replacement. However, I am very interested in what people have to say about replacement outboard options. When the time comes I am tempted to go with 15hp outboards with power lift, assuming they are the same size/weight as the 9.9s (often it is just a small difference in the carburetor).

Dennis,
Thanks for the reply.
I was looking at the 15hp models too, and they seem like they would fit in the wells. What I am unsure of, is if the increase in HP overcomes the decrease in torque at low end.... These 15hp also offer better charging solutions. We have a cuttyhunk trip planned this summer too! (lots of plans...)
Best,
Matt

Matt,
Your anchor light fixture is likely to be an Aqua Signal like this one, but check using a camera:

If you have a decent telephoto lens you can generally tell what it is from blowing up a camera shot (even a phone might do).
This 31mm LED bulb will fit that fixture:

Just a few thoughts.
* 15 hp. No you will not get more power and you will get less in reverse. The Yamaha 9.9 really is the right motor. I've used other motors and they just aren't as good.
* Solar is much more effective than engine charging when you have a big hardtop. You don't run enough engine hours to help much, but you can pack a lot of cells on the roof. Also consider adding a battery or upsizing.
* Binoculars are the time-honored way to look at the rigging and masthead. You will probably get a better view than with a drone, since the binoculars can be made quite stable by resting them on a piling a few slips down.
Really, you should go up the mast to inspect at least once per year. Not a big deal once you have the tools.

Welcome aboard Matt!
Can't help with your bulb #'s, but just wanted to say hello.

The original anchor light (I believe aqua signal) was damaged in a storm. I replaced it 18 months ago with a Pactel LED:

I was skeptical, but I gotta say, it has been through some crappy wx and is going like a champ.
