watermakers

We are hoping to get to the Bahamas this winter & I was wondering if a
watermaker was worth the investment. I've heard stories that water was expensive
there. Just wondering what everyone else thought

You are right that water in the Bahamas is expensive and not always very good
quality. However, you have to balance that with how much power the watermaker
will use (and you need to use it regularly), how long will you be cruising, how
many people will be on your boat, etc
For relatively short cruises, i.e., 4 weeks or less, with just a couple on
board, I would prefer to take a few extra gallons for consumption and rig a rain
catcher for washing, etc. Also, you can wash dishes and such in salt water in
most places and just rinse in fresh, thereby saving water.
