Does anyone know how to contact the 'powers to be' of the Okeechobee Water Way to find out if it's on schedule to reopen March 31st?  We called the St Lucie lock tender and he said he "thought probably the end of the month".  But he didn't sound too sure.  We need to talk with someone in a supervisory capacity who can confirm the actual reopening of the St Lucie lock which is what they've been working on. It will take us about a week to get to the waterway and that would save us  a lot of fuel so that we don't have to go south around the tip of Florida, then north.

call army corp of engineers in jacksonville. they have direct control of lock. i spoke to THE guy 2 years ago.

Will call them tomorrow as soon as I can find their phone number. Located the number for the south FL office so might start with them.

We did call them... both the Jacksonville and south FL offices. All they would say is that "as far as they knew, they were on schedule, but anything could happen at the last minute". Other words, they wouldn't say for certain that it would be open April 1.
